We’re used to seeing it the other way around, like an LS7 dropped into a ‘68 Camaro. But I recently got the idea of something like a 427 Tri-Power dropped into a Stingray Z06. I know, it’ll be more unpractical, inefficient, and slower, but I’m sure the installer would already know that. So I wonder if it’s been done. Not specifically a 427 in a Z06, just any pre-1975 ish production American V8 installed in a post-1995 ish car. I don’t mean those custom racing engines with 120300339 hp, just either stock or lightly modified pre-’75 motor.
Imagine a 500ci OHV Caddy in a Miata...
On a side note, I believe that a guy in my neighborhood recently bought a ‘74 Trans Am LT, I’ll try to get a pic sometime. I’ve seen it sitting in the driveway a couple times.

BRB putting 401 Buick Nailhead in first-gen Insight.

I know a lot of people take shitty S10/Blazers and swap in old V8s, but that’s about all I can think of.

Perhaps an RX7?
Part of the reason you may not have encountered these is because in some states, you’re not allowed to swap an engine unless it’s the same model year or newer than the chassis it’s going into.

Usually it’s done the other way. Only “old” engine I ever see shoved in newer cars is the Chevy 350 SB. Though I’m sure you could shove a 413 in a modern Dart. Maybe.

That would be an improvement.

It would *only* make the car weigh about 500lb extra. Yes, I actually did look up the weight for Insight internals and a Nailhead, because I’m a loon.
/A 455 Toronado swap would be lighter
//And easier to implement

Part of the reason you don’t see this often is because of EPA regs.
The rest of the reason is because it’s an utter waste of time and money.

No, just...no.
Every time I see a Wankel-less RX-7, I die a little more inside.

In Forza Horizon 2 I dropped a 427 Tri-Power in a Buick GNX and gave it Donk rims and a flame paint job.
Dropped a 426 Hemi in a H1 Hummer.
Then I thought it was a great idea to insert a 427 in a Bandit Trans Am.
Yeah it can't turn.

Most states don’t let you put in older running gear only the same model year or newer hence why you see so many LS swaps and so few 2jz swaps

You could in the same way people put 440’s in Neons.

My buddy has a carb’d 302 from a 1970-something mustang powering his 1994 240sx, looks mean as hell with the air filter coming ever so slightly through the hood

454 in a Cavalier
455 in a G3/Bravada/Sunfire
500 in a BLS
429 in a Fiesta

I know on Knight Rider, for the ‘super pursuit’ shots of KITT, they had that 1980s Pontiac Firebird with a Chevy 454.

Ooooh - put that 429 in the BACK of the Fiesta. Instant mid-engined, big block, hyper hatch, (with really, really, really bad snap over-steer.)
